Carolyn knew she would spend her life providing comfort to animals ever since she took care of Hedwig, her first of many Saint Bernards. In 1983, while attending high school at Orchard Park, Carolyn and her mother Sally started Eagle Ridge Boarding Kennel. After high school, she went on to Cornell and graduated from SUNY Delhi with a degree in veterinary technology. For a few years Carolyn worked as a vet tech then decided to return to manage the Kennel. Eagle Ridge has grown in large part to due to her dedication in providing a fun, safe and enjoyable experience for all their guests. She enjoys spending time with the dogs and loves to clean! For fun, Carolyn, as Opdyke Kennel, raises and shows Saint Bernards. Opdyke Saint Bernards are known around the world for their quality and, on cooler days, can be seen romping around next to the house. Carolyn also is married to Dr. David Trachtenberg, a veterinarian. David and Carolyn have 2 children, Katharine and Ethan, both of which are major animal lovers.
Dr. Trachtenberg is originally from the Rochester NY area. Animals were a part of his family starting at an early age with Baron, a German Shepherd, and Shadow a chocolate Lab (who has provided colorful stories for generations). His love for animals includes horses of which he has bred, raised and trained. Before obtaining a DVM at Cornell University in 1992, he travelled to Europe to learn Dressage. He married Carolyn in 2002 (who cofounded Eagle Ridge with her mother Sally in 1983) and has 2 children, Ethan and Katharine. He founded and ran a sucessful equine practice in the Rochester area for many years. Then, 3 years ago, they decided to make Orchard Park their home. Since then, in addition to his regular equine practice, Dr Trachtenberg oversees the management of guests who come with medical concerns. You may also see him on occasion helping in the office by encouraging the computers to behave.
For fun, he spends time with his 2 kids, rides, and is actively involved in the Saint Bernard Club of America. He headed their Health Committee for many years and assists Carolyn as an expert water bucket filler at dog shows.
